SPLNTR
Ed Shaw of 36NORTH unveiled SPLNTR, an interactive audiovisual installation, at CMXX Las Vegas in the downtown Arts District from Nov. 21–23, 2019. The immersive project allowed visuals and sound to shift based on audience movement, showcasing cutting-edge technologies from Avolites, Notch, Group One Ltd, AG Light and Sound, X-Laser, GLP, and Robe. Shaw collaborated with Brett Bolton, blinkinLAB’s Tom and Satoko Wall, Spencer Heron of Rebel Overlay, and Notch’s creative team to bring his vision to life.
The large-scale installation required nine HD projectors, six Avolites Q3 servers, two Ai servers for real-time graphics, and X-Laser’s Skywriter HPX systems, with infrastructure support from AG Light and Sound.
Co-sponsors saw SPLNTR as a chance to break from traditional trade shows and present new tools to designers in a more creative environment.
The project was both an artistic experiment and a showcase of next-generation production technology.
